our story
AFROWIST RY was established with a compelling vision: to cultivate a secure and supportive environment where African immigrant women, youth, and children in Finland can thrive. Originating from a community dialogue in Turku in 2024, our initiative commenced with genuine voices, authentic challenges, and a collective aspiration for empowerment, connection, and cultural pride. We engaged in active listening and learning, subsequently taking tangible actions. Our organization has evolved into a movement that honors African heritage while assisting our community in navigating and prospering within a host environment. The narrative of our organization continues to develop, and we extend an invitation for you to join us in this endeavor.
our foundation
AFROWIST Ry focuses on community, culture, and resilience, emphasizing the integration of African immigrant women, youth, and children into Finnish society. The Association is built on five key pillars: integration, cultural preservation, education, social well-being, networking, and collaboration. These values drive their initiatives, including cultural celebrations and support services, aimed at addressing current challenges and fostering a brighter future.
